Latest News for 2010/11
Louth Branch on tour November 12th to 14th 2011. They came from all parts of Monaghan, South Armagh, North Louth and of course Dundalk as almost 20 members took to the road early (05:30) to catch the 08:15 flight from Dublin to Leeds. There were Sheelans from Cooley, Quinns from Killeavy, McFaddens from Dundalk, Martins from Carrickmacross and McEvoys from Riverstown including Cooley's f avourite sub, Antoin McEvoy AKA the Judge. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, some slept on the way to the airport whilst others exchanged stories of previous Louth Branch adventures. Seventeen years of club trips tells its own tale. The Queens hotel was both the watering hole and lodgings. No expense spared for these merry members. Witherspoons in the train station was descended upon for much needed boosts of cholesterol dressed up as an english fry. The obligitary visit to the club shop at Elland Ro ad was the next stop, as Leeds club koffers were boosted by prolific spenders. Everything from kids slippers to replica shirts (that even fitted Liam Quinn) to calendars to car stickers filled Leeds bags. Would Michael O'Leary be at the airport to weigh bags and try and fill them into the shrinking metal bag carrier ? Who cares ! It would be made to fit. Refreshments were downed in our own pub, The Peacock, before Jim Keating better known as the Shark Higgins taught the young whipper snappers how to play pool. Our good old friend, 83 years young, Eric Carlile was visited in the Moorhouse, were the price of drink was recession proof @ £1.43 for a pint of Sovereign. It was good to see our old friend looking so well, with his cheeky grin and his eye for the ladies....Liz Quinn. Some headed to Flares. Some headed back to the Queens and some headed to bed. Saturday. Match day. Could the Merry men bring back the points. Padna and Geraldine lane had failed miserably the previous Tuesday when a Jonhson OG granted Hull City an undeserved draw. The Peacock offered dutch courage. A lifeless first half saw United and Bristol city deadlocked at half time. Gerry McFadden couldn't take the he at and retreated to the inner sanctum of Elland Road for the second half. Enter Luciano Becchio, and the Argentine scored a brilliant twenty minute hat-trick to give Leeds a deserved 3-1 victory. The party began. Ennis and Louth renewed acquaintances in the Peacock. Forty men from Clare had travelled over. Howard's restaurant served up a feast for the merry men, and Mickey Tuite is still complaining about the menu, or rather the prices on it. The Queens played host to a sing song. The Cooley cubs toured Leeds. Sunday came and they merry men were whisked off to East Midlands were a couple of drinks finished off the weekend. Thanks for the company lads. Until the next time.....
Louth Branch AGM. A healthy turnout was evident in Peadars for our AGM on Monday night, 21st of June. Many travelled from as far afield as Emyvale, Carrickmacross, Armagh and Drogheda. It was good to see old faces again. The same committee was returned for another year and questions were fielded about all aspects of the SC. Membership was opened for season 2010/11 and 26 members paid up their subscriptions already. The same prices apply : €15 Euro for Adules, €30 per family and €7 Euro for Under 16s and over 76s. The Louth Branch has had an active July. We ran our annual free bus to the Shelbourne match in Tolka Park. This is a great opportunity for the kids to get to see Leeds United up close, as many don't often get across to Elland Road as often as the adults. In a small ground environment, some can meet their heroes more freely than in Leeds. Conal Tipping had his shirt signed by Johnny Howson and Sean Cunningham at the Oval v Glentoran was lucky enough to have his photo taken with Simon Grayson, Eddie Gray and Peter Lorimer. This is what makes kids want to be Leeds fans. We also had our AGM in Peadars and while it was a small turnout a very useful and important meeting took place. Thanks to those in particular who travelled from Ardee and Monaghan. The same committee was re-elected for 2009/10. We have decided also to remain with the Supporters club for 2009/10, and had a lengthy discussion regarding the merits of SC v Members club. The club is in excellent condition financially and we all look forward to the upcoming season when we hopefully take one step closer to the Premiership. Membership is now open for season 2009/10. Adults = €15 Euro, Kids and over 65's - €7 Euro and family membership = €30 Euro. This is the sixth season in a row that membership has remained at the same price. Excellent value.
Shels Match We will be organising transport for the Shels match which takes place on Tuesday, July 14th at 7:45. All welcome especially kids. Please text me asap if you wish to have your seat reserved. The amount of people travelling obviously dictates the size of bus we need.
AGM 2009
The 2009 AGM for the Louth branch will be held in Peadars on Friday, July 17th. Please try and attend. Membership is open for season 2009/10.
