Sept 10th 2008. Flights have been arranged and deposits taken for all those travelling on our first trip. For those still interested in travelling, please arrange your own flights and we will look after the rest.

(Letter to our Members on Tuesday August 19th 2008)

Dear Member,
We are in the process of arranging our first official trip of the season. This will entail the local derby match against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, November 15th which will probably commence at 12Noon. Last season a crowd of 32,501 people attended this match and saw United win by 4-0. A repeat of the score line would be more than welcome.
In order to arrange flights at suitable prices it is vital that those intending on traveling signal their intention to do so by next Monday, August 25th and pay a €100 Euro deposit by Friday, August 29th.
After this date, if you wish to travel you will have to pay for the higher priced flight yourself. We will only be arranging flights with carry on luggage. For those wishing to put a bag into the hold of the plane that is for your own expense at the airport, but please bear in mind that this delays the other members on the way back when waiting for luggage.
The price of the trip will be kept as low as possible. We intend to fly to Leeds on the noon flight on Friday, November 14th and return on the lunch time flight on Sunday, November 16th. We had some terrific trips last season, so why not do your best to come along once again. The full price of the trip will only be known after the initial flights are booked, so please let us know by the dead line.
The same committee was returned for another year after our recent AGM in Peadars.

AGM Amendment

The AGM will now take place on Monday night , August 11th in Peadars. We won't be meeting up the following night for the live match against Chester because of the night racing in all the pubs.

Shels match The Louth Branch was well represented at the Shels game in Tolka Park on July 23rd. A full free mini coach was utilised and many others made their way via cars. Good to see so many young members like the O'Hares, Cunninghams, Quigleys and Tippings. These kids are the future. We had members from Dundalk, Cooley, Monaghan, Drogheda and Dunleer sprinkled throughout the ground with the ususal Louth Branch Leeds United tricolour behind the goals in the Ballyboughal end.

July 10th. Louth Branch AGM and Leeds Irish friendlies (following letter sent out)

Leeds United are travelling to Ireland in the next few week for a three match tour. They will be playing Galway United on July 16th, Bray Wands on July 20th and Shelbourne on July 23rd. The Supporters club will be running transport to the Shels match on Wednesday July 23rd leaving at 5PM from Peadar McArdles, Ann Stree Dundalk. All under age members in particular are encouraged to attend the match. Tickets can be bought on the evening at Tolka Park or members can organise their own. The SC will not be organising tickets for these friendlies. The annual graveside Patron in Dowdellshill, Dundalk prevents us from organising anything for the Bray Wands match, and Galway is too far to travel for a friendly especially with Shels more suitable. .

In order to ascertain how many are interested in travelling, text me on 086/2630363 by latest Thursday 17th of July. I will be on holidays during that period, but the SC need to know numbers to arrange adequate transport. The bus will be free for paid up members only, but we will leave word in Peadars also.

Our AGM will take place on Monday August 11th 2008 in Peadars. All members should try and attend. If for some reason Pedars may not be suitable, (because of commitments to night racing) our website will have the correct venue.

For up to date details on what is happening within the Louth Branch log onto www.leedsutd-louthsc.com
Time and expense prevents me from sending notes and magazines out so our website is kept updated daily except when I’m away on holidays.

May 10th. Information on tickets for Wembley.
There will be little time to organise anything after Thursday nights second leg (May 15th). We intend to meet up in Peadars on Thursday night watch the  second match which is  at Carlisle's Brunton Park, and take orders for the Play-Off final (should Leeds be successful in getting there). Any Louth Branch member interested should be in Peadars on Thursday night. We will be discussing where we are with tickets, who is entitled to same and what we intend to do. If you want to be included please be there.

April 19th. Leeds United have announced that they have unveiled an "International Members package" for £20Stg open to members outside of the UK. The first 1,000 applicants are guaranteed a Play-Off final ticket should Leeds qualify for the Wembley showdown. If unsuccessful the members card is valid for 2008/09 also and gives members 10% discount in the club shop. Another Bates tax ? Probably. If there are 5,000 applicants that's another £100,000 for Leeds. We will have great difficulty in attaining enough tickets for members should Leeds get to Wembley on May 25th, so all members interested are encouraged to apply. You can download an application form from the Leeds United official website. Go into News archive and click on "International calling" on April 16th or contact the secretary for details.

March 28th to 30th. Louth Branch Trip.  Twenty two members of the Louth Branch converged on Leeds for another hugely successful club trip. The Pecaock, now under the management of the Leeds United Supportres Club enjoyed quite a bit of revenue the whole weekend from some of the best Leeds United fans in Ireland. There were the Lynches, Quigleys, Tippings, Cunnighams, Quinns, Kettles, Watters and Cunninghams to name but a few. Nine of us kept up the tradition of visiting a different ground and town. This time we scouted out Doncaster v Notts Forest (1-0 to the home side) on the Friday night for Staunton and McAllister, should we meet either side in the Play-Offs. Another new stadium, the Keepmoat, and this joins others already visited over the years by the Louth Branch such as : Turf Moor, Hillsboro, Goodison Park, Ewood Park, to name but a few. It's always quite relaxing visiting a different stadium. Full marks to the the Carrickmacross born proprietor of "The Horse and Hound" in Doncaster, for both making us feel at home and leaving us to the stadium.
The Saturday was taken up with the pilgrimage to Elland Road for the visit of Brighton. The game is covered on the main page. It was great to meet up with our great friends and good Louth Branch members, Pete Sebine, Ann Sebine and Kyle Sebine. On Saturday night, suits were donned and we headed to the annual Supporters Club Dinner Dance, this time held in the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds. It was a grand building fitting for such eminent guests. Full marks to the SC committee for their organisational skills, in particular John Peckham. The meal was fantastic and night was enjoyed immensely. Ian St John the guest speaker went down well, but new president of the SC, Gary Kelly spoke emotionally and proudly at his joy in remaining on in such a capacity at Leeds. It was great to see Eric Carlile, who is retiring after fifty years as secretary of the SC receive the standing ovation he so richly desrved. A true friend of the Louth Branch. Well done to Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Post for a fine speech which he encapsulated many fans' dreams, aspirations and no little honesty in his description of the typical Leeds fan. Ray Fell spoke from the heart and described the continued frictions between the independent SC and Leeds United with the main reference to Mr Ken Bates. Ian St John surprised many when he mentioned during his speech that Jock Stein had phoned him to meet the Leeds board back in 1974 when the Don had departed for the English national job. Two directors offered him the job,but he read in the newspaper the next day that Brian Clough had been made manager. Fair play to Richard Cresswell, Kevin Sharpe and Robbie Blake for being in attendance and willingly posing for all photographs and gladly signing all autographs. It would be remiss of me not to give special mention to Dominic Matteo who was a superb ambassador for footallers. As an ex Leeds captain who left the club three years ago, he was brilliant to our own youngest member present, Peter Lynch Junio.r (just 14). Good luck to the guy and to Richard Cresswell (a Leeds fan still) with their Play-Off hopes with Stoke City. Sunday saw the return home and well done to all involved. Roll on the next one.

Wedding Ball 2008

The Louth Branch are lending their support to a very worthwhile event taking place in the Fairways hotel on March 28th, 2008. It's a mock wedding reception in aid of the Gary Kelly foundation and tickets are available from the committee or via event organiser Viv Keenan on 087/3215572. There is a champagne reception, lovely meal and loads of craic all supporting a super cause. Tickets are going like hot cakes and are available priced €50 Euro. Should be a great night.

Annual Draw

The Louth Branch annual draw was another huge success thanks to our hard working members. A very large crowd gathered in Peadars and an enjoyable night was had by all.
The following were the winners on the night : 1. MP3 player to Paul McMahon. Card seller was Paul McMahon. 2.MP3 player to Sharon Quigley. Card seller was Sharon Quigley. 3. MP3 player to Gerard Kirk. Card seller was Gerard Kirk. 7. €25 Euro to Anthony Durnin. Card seller was Matt Keating. 8. €25 Euro to Mickey McCarron. Card seller was Mickey McCarron. 9. €25 Euro to Anne Arthur. Card seller was Ollie Arthur. 10. Bottle of Whiskey to Paul Landy. Card seller was Paul Minogue. 11. Bottle of Whiskey to Sharon Morris. Card seller was Ricky Watters. 12. Fyffes fruit hamper to Theresa McGuinness. Card seller was Francie Smyth.
Many spot prizes were enjoyed by the members in attendance. Members who failed to sell draw cards are no longer members for season 2007/08.

We had a hugely successful trip back in September taking in the Hartlepool 2-0 match to make it points zero and give wins on the trot. Some of us also took in the Rhinos match against Hull and got the VIP treatment thanks to our good friend Martin Woods in Headingley. This time around we are taking in Brighton on March 29th. We will be flying out before lunch time on the Friday, and for those interested we plan to take in Doncaster Rovers versus Notts Forest at the Keepmoat stadium in Doncaster, about 40 miles from Leeds. We also plan to attend the annual Supporters Club Dinner Dance in the Royal Armouries museum in Leeds on the Saturday night. Last year, Jack Charlton was guest speaker, and they promise to have another high profile speaker on the night as well as new SC president Gary Kelly. Last years joint players of the year, Eddie lewis and Ian Moore have been invited although the former is tied up. We fly back on the Sunday at lunchtime. Deposits of €100 Euro are needed as soon as possible to secure a place on the trip. Our annual club draw takes place on Monday night in Peadars. Please do your best to sell the full draw card. All welcome.(pic top left shows Louth Branch in good mood outside Peacok Sep 07 and above Greg Tipping, Pete, Ann and Kyle Sebine enjoying a drink in the Peaock January 08)

Latest Ticket News for Cardiff

May 22nd. 18 Members of the Louth Branch descended on Cardiff, some without tickets. The flew in to Bristol, Cardiff Leeds and Birmingham.  We had a great occasion although we were badly let down by a sub standard Leeds performance. The Quinns, Quigleys, Lanes, Toners, Ardee Brigade, Monaghan Brigade and Dundalk diehards were all there. Many were in Wembley 10 years earlier when coincidentally we lost that final 0-3 also. It was a great occasion witnessing 50,000 Leeds fans take over the Welsh capital. Alas a bridge too far !!!

May 19th. It's been an extraordinary week in trying to get tickets for everyone who wants to go to Cardiff. This was by far the most difficult match I have ever encountered. We set down five sets of criteria and almost all who applied in time will get a ticket. Leeds only gave tickets to Leeds Members card holders (not to be confused with Supporters Club members) and Season ticket holders. The work put in to secure the quantity we got was immense and I would like to thank Peter Sebine in particular for his help. The Louth Branch will have approaching 20 members in Cardiff. They will travel via Leeds, Bristol, London, Birmingham and ferry. Best of luck lads and please God we will be back in the Premiership by the time of our next news. For those who aren't travelling you can enjoy the match in Wisemans of Bridge Street. Marching on !!

May 11th. There will be a meeting in Peadar McArdles on Monday, May 15th AT 9:30 pm to update members who applied for tickets for the Leeds vs Watford game. Demand for this match is unprescedented. I have never known anything like it and we currently have no tickets (10 hour queues have been reported at Elland Road - see pic right). All who have contacted me this week should attend. Absolutely no guarantees to anyone for tickets

Ticket News - Please don't feel guaranteed of a ticket for Cardiff from the Lout Branch. Only Season ticket holders and Leeds Members card holders will have the first pick according to LUFC. We will do our best with the small allocation we receive but the demand will far exceed the supply on this one.

Important Notice - In view of Leeds now playing Preston NE in the first match of the Play-Offs at Elland Road on Friday May 5th, our Quiz planned for this night is cancelled. There are a number of members travelling to this match. The Quiz will nou occur on Friday, June 9th at 8:30                  Also names are now been taken for those interested in attending the Play-Off Final (should Leeds get there). There is no guarantee re tickets and I stress this.  For those who aren't travelling to Elland Road we will be watching both legs of the Play-Off Semi Finals in Wisemans.

Ticket News; For those wishing to attend the the Home match in the Play-Off Semi-Final let me know ASAP as these tickets are on sale now. Prices are €50 Euro.

There is no guarantee of tickets for members for the Play-Off final (should Leeds reach Cardiff). However for those interested in attending the Final names are now been taken. Obviously many things surrounding this match are up in the air and shrouded in doubt but names to be submitted to the Secretary or a members of the committee asap.

Play-Off  Ticket News. Depending on what position Leeds finish will determine who they play and when they play in the Play-Offs. This is how it will work :

3rd v 6th (First leg on Sat or Sun 6th/7th of May and 2nd leg on 10th and 11th of May. The team that finishes 3rd will play the away leg first and the home leg last.

4th v 5th (first leg on Sat/Sun 6th/7th of May and 2nd leg on 10th and 11th of May. The team that finishes 4th will play the Home game 2nd.;

The Play-Off final is in the Millennium stadium in Cardiff on Sunday May 21st.

Sat April 22nd. It was good to see seven members of the Louth Branch see Leeds get back to winning ways. By all accounts all had an enjoyable weekend. Well done lads.

April 5th. The Easter edition of the Louth Branch magazine  will be winging its way to your doors from this weekend and should be with you by April 11th. In this our 59th magazine since 2004 topics covered include : The Supporters Club V Ken Bates, The Play-Offs season by season, Gary Kelly 500 up, Gary Sprake, Louth Branch News, Easter Quiz time, Latest News from Elland Road, and much much more. If you would like a "Rant" enclosed please e-mail it to me by this Thursday. Look forward to hearing from you.

April 4th At this evenings committee meeting it was agreed that our annual Charity Quiz will take place in Peadar McArdles of Anne Street, Dundalk on Friday May 5th. Kick off will be 8 PM. Please do your best to support this worthwile event. All of  the proceeds will go to the North Louth Hospice who do unbelievable work.We are proud of our record to date with charities so please let us keep up this enviable record.

March 26th. It looks like the Drogheda v Leeds match scheduled for June 18th will have the date changed. More details later when the new date is announced.

March 25th   Egg on my face this weekend after slagging some of our lads about not taking back the three points.  Greg, Liam and myself took in the Stoke City match. Not our best performance of the season and hopefully our last hiccup.

March 18th. It was a sad day today as Brendan Tipping (father of our Chairman Greg) was laid to rest. It's barely a fortnight short of six years ago that Brendan, Greg and myself attended the 3-4 thriller v Man United at Elland Road. RIP Brendan a really nice man !

March 14th. It's great to hear that Leeds United will be bringing a squad to United P ark to play Drogheda United once again. A pity it's not Oriel Park but how and ever. Only joking, Jim, Francie and Ben. Last time out we had a ball and many of the younger members met their heroes (and some of the older ones, see Pat Quinn with Deano). This game will take place on July 18th at 7:45 PM.  Log in for more details nearer the time.

March 10th. Ten members of the Louth Branch witnessed an Eddie Lewis special gain us a late point v Norwich. It could be vital later on the in the season. Unfortunately, Kevin, Peadar and Peter Lynch have yet to witness a league win in four season of going to Elland Road. Please don't ask me for any more tickets this side of the summer. The word is that you guys would stop a train.

March 7th.  There will be members travelling to all of the remaining home games. Quite a few are booked up for Crewe Alex, Reading, Plymouth and Stoke City. There are a lot of value flights to Leeds and back from Manchester or Doncaster at the moment. If people want to travel over and back the same day there is value to be had travelling on the 9:25 flight to Leeds/Bradford from Dublin and back from Manchester that evening at 19:25 or 21:00 hrs. To catch these flights from Manchester there are trains to Manchester airport from Leeds city station at 17:09 and 17:25. If one purchases a bus special return ( which leaves you at the East stand) he/she can make this train for the 19:25 flight as long as he/she leaves straight after the match. If one wants to stay over and the flight from Leeds/Bradford is proving expensive on the Sunday, why not avail of the Doncaster airport flight at lunchtime on Sunday which usually excellent value. Trains to Doncaster leave approximately every half hour and take around 35/40 minutes. One can then take a shuttle bus from Doncaster train station ( which departs every half hour) to the airport or hop in a taxi for the 7 mile journey. If you want accommodation arranged or tickets for any of the remaining fixtures please get on to Greg and myself early.

March 1st. Members wishing to buy a Leeds members card (£40 Stg for overseas members yet illogically £30 Stg for members living in Britain) will be allowed a Leeds members card for next season also, according to "Members page" in the Luton Town programme. It's still another unofficial tax in the view of the Louth Branch committee, but up to each member if he she wants to avail of the scheme. The Members card allows one apply for tickets in advance of others and is compulsory for ordering away tickets. Should Leeds reach the Play Offs this will be regarded as an away fixture.

Feb 25th. Good to see John and Patrick Freeman back at Elland Road (for the Luton Town) accompanied by committee member, Terry McQuaid. Hope you all enjoyed the day. As usual "Schoolboy McQuaid" came back with all three points.

Feb 24th. The Louth Branch passes on its condolences to the Oliphant family on the death of Paul's father. Paul and son David are massive Whites fans and will be taking in the Crewe game later on in the season.

Feb 17th. The Official Norwich trip has been cancelled. There are already nine members travelling to this match and have alternative travel arrangements made. There are quite a few members travelling to the forthcoming Luton Town and Stoke City games also. Don't forget to avail of the different methods of travelling to Leeds. Doncaster airport have good value flights as well as Manchester and Newcastle  so shop around and don't let Ryanair mug you the whole time via Leeds/Bradford .

Feb 5th. The Spring edition (4th of the season) of the Louth Branch magazine was completed and posted out to members today. It will be winging its way to members and should arrive by Wednesday 8th of February. In this edition there are features on : What ever happened to Michael Bridges ?, Our Promotion Rivals,  Louth Branch Quiz and Christmas draw, So you think you know Leeds United, Club News, and much more....

Sadness - The Louth Branch passes on its deepest sympathy to Mickey Foley, whose sister, Carol passed away after a long illness. Our thoughts are with Carol's family at this difficult time.

Louth Branch members travel- Terry McQuaid, Paul Oliphant and myself witnessed Leeds biggest home win of the season, against local rivals Sheffield Wednesday 3-0.

Best Wishes - We send our very best wishes to Anne Sebine, Beestons finest Laois woman, and husband of diehard Pete, one of our finest members and good friend. Anne is recovering after having recent surgery. Hopefully Pete is pulling his weight around the house for a change and not talking about it. Get well soon Anne and we will see you soon up and about.  Anne is pictured below with Liam Quinn on left and Pete on right.

Next Official trip The next Louth Branch official trip will take in the Norwich City game on March 10th. €100 deposits to be paid ASAP to Liam Quinn. Further details to be announced. Flights will be booked when we are sure of Sky's intentions, but first deposits guarantee the cheaper flights. Book Now !!

Next Live match on Sky Why not pop along to Wisemans on Tuesday ( Jan 17th) next for the live get together to watch Leeds versus Wigan the the 3rd round replay. Kick off is 7:45PM and all are welcome.

Wisemans Annual draw   The year kicked off in super style as the Louth Branch d descended on Wisemans of Bridge Street, Dundalk for our annual draw and only our 3rd live game of the season. Leeds didn't disappoint as they turned in arguably their best performance of the season in a resounding 3-0 Victory. Some of us even had Cresswell at 6/1 for the first goal scorer. A great nights craic was had by all who attended and our thanks goes to Brendan Sherry for putting up a decent spread of food free of charge. Many members went away with a spot prize under their arm also. Spot prizes went to the following : Sharon Quigley, Ivor Martin, Seamie Agnew, Paddy Kettle, Ray McCloskey, Raymond Brannigan, Olivia Foley, Ben Floyd, Jim Ballantine, Paul Minogue, Joe Kelly and Celine Foley.
