Louth Branch History (inc pics)
 |
The Louth Branch was formed in 1994. From the original
committee, Chairman, Greg Tipping and Secretary, Gerry Cunningham
still remain, as well as many of the original members who now occupy
committee positions such as : Pat Quinn, Mickey Foley, and Liam Quinn.
Our first official trip took in Southampton at Elland Road in March
2004, when 33 members travelled over by boat. The match was unremarkable
but the weekend was superb and many friendships were made for life. |
The Louth Branch of the Leeds United Supporters club has been fully
affiliated to Leeds United since 1994. There are currently 21 supporters
clubs in Ireland, North and South.
The Louth Branch contains 130 members and is heavily centred around, Dundalk,
Mid, South and North Louth, Co. Monaghan, and South Armagh.

So you want to join the Louth Branch ?
Membership cost €15 Euro per member, €7 Euro
per Junior (under 16), and €30 Euro for the whole family. It is a
condition of membership that each member/family sell at least half of
the annual draw card which is distributed to members with the club magazine
in October. The revenue gained from same helps run the club for the season.
Each member must furnish 2 passport sized photographs. One stays with
Leeds SC, and the other goes to the member as an ID card and also he/she
is furnished with a Louth Branch SC card and a copy of the Louth Branch
rules. We send out on average six highly informative magazines to each
member containing all the latest information from Elland Road and what
is happening within the branch. The SC organises two official trips to
Elland Road each season. These trips are kept as low as possible where
transport to the airport, match tickets, hotels etc are all organized
for each member.

and Louth SC club regulations

Many members travel over regularly in smaller trips. Greg Tipping will
organize the hotel for paid up members and Gerry Cunningham will organize
match tickets for paid up members. Match tickets are only organized for
paid up members of the SC. Members must organize their own flights outside
of club trips.

Some of the games we have attended
The Louth Branch has been at Elland Road through thick and thin over
the years. We
have seen Champions L eague
Semi-Finals, David Wetherall, Brian Deane and Harry Kewell winners
v Man United. There were dark days also witnessing the whites lose 0-4
at home to both Liverpool and Man United and 1-4 to Arsenal. Then there
was the classic 4-3 home win v Spurs and the exhilarating 3-2 victory
over Newcastle. Many of us enjoyed a late Lee Bowyer winner v Anderlecht
in the Champions League (see right) and
had the hairs tingle at the back of our spines for the Champions league
anthem before the Champions league Semi Final match v Valencia. There
were dour displays, inspirational displays and Leeds United displays.
The ecstasy, the frustration, the joy, the sadness. Yes it all comes with
being a Leeds United fan and a member of the Louth Branch. We have witnessed
in large numbers Kevin Blackwell's charges take on Wigan Athletic, Wolves,
Coventry, QPR and Rotherham last season and have been present at almost
every home match this season. We are Leeds United Louth Branch
.
 Tony
Currie Night One of our greatest occasions encompassed
the visit of Leeds United legend, Tony Currie for a weekend to Dundalk
back in March of 1997. Not only was the man one of the "Greats"
to wear the white shirt, but proved to be a super person also. A magic
weekend was had by all on that occasion.
Louth Branch meets Leeds United;
In March of 2005, the Louth Branch met up with the Leeds United squad
(by invitation) in the Neptune Hotel in Laytown, County Louth and
made a number of presentations. Our thanks goes to Kevin Blackwell for
making his squad so accommodating, particularly for the younger
members.
See

Tipping to Neil Sullivan, and pic of Secretary Gerry Cunningham presenting
a welcome to Louth piece of crystal to manager, Kevin Blackwell, and Tony
Currie having a few words in the Lorne Hotel, Dundalk 1997 watched by
Paddy Kettle and Mickey Foley.
Where to Watch The Louth Branch watch
all live Leeds games in Wisemans of Bridge Street, Dundalk and occasionally
travel around to the other areas where our members are heavily represented,
such as Carrickmacross, Drogheda and Monaghan.
Annual Quiz The Louth Branch each season
organizes a Quiz where all the proceeds go to Charity. Over €10,000
has been raised and distributed over the past number of years to such
worthy causes as : Cunamh (child support agency), Dundalk Simon Community,
Concern and Dundalk Mental Health. These are not only great for charity
but really enjoyable social nights and usually take place in Peadar McArdles,
Anne Street, Dundalk. We are proud to continue this tradition of Quiz
nights. It's our way of giving something back to the community.
There are members of the committee present in Peadar McArdles each Monday
night from 8:30PM until 10:30PM (except Bank holidays) and all will by
happy to answer your queries.

If you want to join an exciting, innovative branch full of camaraderie
and take part in club events, the Louth branch is the one for you. If
you want to join solely for tickets then this is not the branch for you.
We view ourselves as one of the most progressive, innovative and supportive
branches within the LUSC family worldwide and will be around for some
time to come yet.
