Well the inconsistency remains no matter who is in charge, the first two goals on Saturday were particularly bad,in fact reminiscent of my defending the evening we played in Leeds all those years ago,but at least I can say I was drunk.
The old Blaster is keeping it very quiet in his hunt for a new manager, although i heard a strong rumour from Scotland yesterday that he had offered it to Gary Mc,but again it's all rumour and hearsay.
Whoever comes in has a mighty hard task ,although he will be thankful that in a wide open division a decent run for five or six matches would get us right into contention, however considering we have not won back to back since the end of January , that is wishful thinking. Hopefully an appointment is imminent and we can all get behind the new man whoever he is.
Cheers

I think we have to soon call a spade a spade and look for a new manager. If Healy can score regularly for his country and not for his club something's wrong somewhere, maybe try to put him in front of the goals where strikers are suppose to be.We all know there's not a lot of funds and were hoping to be back watching us play premiership football but after Cardiff (no game plan) and so far this season the same plan we'll be awhile waiting to see it happen.Even bring back O'Leary!!!

Have to agree that I find some of Mr Blackwells decisions astonishing to say the least. The team tactics in the defeat to Watford were a disgrace and he should have held his hands up and admitted to getting it wrong. The thing that sickens me most though is the waste and destruction of natural talent. Leeds have proved to be one of the best breeding grounds in the world of football with its homegrown talent and to see the likes of Walton being let go is a sin. We are brimming with underage talent yet these guys probably wont get their chance under Blackwell. He'd rather play has-beens like msrs Gregan, Butler and Sullivan (and it was nice to see Mr. Cunningham finally admit this having defended these baboons for far too long!) The loan signings Douglas and Miller were useless in the business end of last season yet they were picked week in week out?? Like Mr. Tipping I too am losing patience with our manager and although I believe he is capable of getting us out of this division I very much doubt if he has the credentials to take Leeds any further. He reminds me very much of Mick McCarthy, a good championship manager at best.
I can see a top 3 finish this year and the teams I expect to be there or thereabouts are Coventry, Wolves, Burnley, and probably Sunderland. |

Can't believe it, Blackwell is making yet another big mistake, Letting Walton go because he doesn't think he will be good enough, what is he doing to our future, this is not good enough, I know we need money, everyone does but not by selling your future. I am just disgusted and really losing support for him.He destroyed Walton last year just does not rate him just like Spring !! |

Nearly a week after Cardiff and we're still were we belong after last weeks non attendance rather than lack of performance.Gerry gave a very blunt description of the game and in my opinion flattered the "team".On last weeks team who would you take to the premiership? We could do with Ridsdales 100 million to get us there. We were poor in all areas of the field and would n't score if we were there yet.I thought it looked like the worst prepared Leeds team I ever saw.Nothing created from the back nor from the midfield, nor from set pieces.
Are loan players the way forward? Not from the ones we've had in the last few years and last weeks pairing joined the rest in kissing the wage packet and not the crest. As one of the 20 to 30 that watched in wisemans and ended up talking about the eurovision during the second half. Johnny Logans words "Whats another Year" come to mind for the under performing 2nd Division Leeds team that are deservedly where they are but not where we as supporters want them.

All will be revealed about Mr Bates conduct with the Supporters Club at a future date. There is no doubting he has helped turn the club's finances around. To that end every Leeds fan is eternally grateful. Good ness knows he is on the record often enough about it but why is a Leeds side chasing automatic promotion not getting 30,000 plus at Elland Road every second Saturday ? All will come out in the wash ! |

I think Leeds have a great chance of grabbing 2nd spot and it is definately in our own hands. I've always been very critical of Gregan but it was good to see him put in a few sterling performances in place of Killa, although I'm delighted to see Killa on his way back from injury and he should have no problem holding his place at Gregans expense. Does anyone know what has become of Marques? I thought he'd have been pushing for a place early doors and he's never featured? Leeds have been fantastic this year and whether we win promotion or not we've made excellent progress and are definately going in the right direction. Eddie Lewis has been my personal favourite. He's got a touch of class and a tremendous workrate. I'd love to share the secret held by the committee members regarding Mr. Bates treatment of the supporters clubs? I know he's not Mr. Popular at the moment but I still dont think we'd be in this position without him and I'd like to see him at the helm for a while yet!!

Well it's six points in the difference now with a match in hand, and we still have to play the Blunts again. Can we catch them ? I've always thought we can. Personally, I think we are a better side and have been dealt a few cruel hand with injuries. Blackwell to his credit has simply got on with the job at hand. Warnock would moan for England. Sheffield United have picked up just six points from their last eighteen. Leeds have not played well in some of their recent away matches (Palace apart) but have still picked up points. We have won our last six home matches and picked up a very creditable fourteen points from our last eighteen. Some members were disappointed with the draws earned at derby and Leicester but the points return has been a decent haul. This is a steeplechase not a sprint. We have lost Cresswell, Kilgallon, Richardson and Stone through injuries but have got on with things and picked up points. Fancied sides like Wolves, Norwich City and Southampton have been busy replacing their manager or logging calls to replace their respective managers. Blackie has done well for us. There is a steelness about this Leeds side. Although lacking in the quality that our overspent millions portrayed a few seasons back, this side is never beaten. Just look at the number of matches we have won through late second half goals. Credit were credit is due. If, and I say if we catch Sheffield United for that second automatic spot it will not be because they threw it away it will be because our team worked its socks off and deserved it. Next up for Sheffield Utd are tricky trips to Coventry and Norwich followed by Southampton and Stoke City. We entertain Norwich City, C Palace and Stoke with a tricky trip to Coventry City sanwiched in between. It's great to see so many members travelling over to the home games despite Ken Bates disgraceful behaviour to our SC. Only our committee is aware of what he has done of late. We applaud the good things that he has done for Leeds utd but not the rest. We'll be supporting Leeds long after he has pissed off back to Monaco. Keep supporting the Whites !!! |

The season so far is going is as good as any of us could expect. With no fortune in the war chest last summer nor this month either should we not be happy with 3rd place and going in the right direction. With 17 matches left and the drummin' we gave Sheffield maybe the wheels might be loosening on their wagon and we can take 2nd place.Well done Blackwell and Co.
Keep the Faith. |

"Like many of you I am disappointed with the defeat at Brighton. Unlike many of you I won't let it get me down completely. We lie in 3rd place with a realistic chance of promotion. Some Leeds fans wanted to sack the manager after 15 league games this season. Have patience. Keep your powder dry. Reading did last season when all the phone ins wanted to sack Steve Coppell. Look where they are now. Others say we should have gone for George Burley. There are very few quick fixes in football. Burley has already lost four out of his first five games at Southampton since his recent appointment. Sure I am never happy with every selection, but I would be happy back in August 2005 if I thought we would lie in 3rd by Mid January 2006. I would love to see a quality right sided midfielder come in. Steve Stone is a massive loss at this level. Paul Ifill the right sided player at Sheff United and Glen Little the right winger at Reading are among the top ten players in the Championship this season. I think if we had someone of their calibre on the right we would create and score a lot more goals., and ultimately win more matches. Overall the manager has been shrewd with the few quid we have invested. I remind members of my comments in the Christmas magazine" : "We will have days when we lose at home to Carrdiff, Ipswich Town and the likes of the Crewes of this world. We will also have days when we win at Southampton, draw at Reading and maybe even win at Sheffield United. Leeds are far from the finished article, but remember Reading and Sheff United have been building for a hell of a lot longer than Leeds. Can we catch either ? Perthaps or perhaps not ? Football is not a science where you defeat the teams below you. We do need to strengthen in January, in the right and in the centre of midfield. For those who cuddenly criticize Kevin Blackwell for his lack of tactical genius. Remember he is the same guy who managed us to 3rd in the league and perhapse fans at Wolves, Norwich, Southampton and C Palace would happily trade places right now. Keep supporting the Whites !!!!" "I still haven't changed my mind and will try and be positive in the good days and the bad days".

"I think this has been an excellent year for Leeds and I do think we will go up, probably in second spot behind Reading. There has been an awful lot of criticism aimed at Mr Bates re ticket prices etc, and probably rightly so, but I don't think we would be in this position now without him. I also must say that Blackwell has done a magnificent job thus far but I remain bewildered as to why we have the two worst, slowest and clumsiest centre halves in the division in Butler and Gregan. I can't begin to imagine what Henry, Drogba and Co. will do with them. On a more positive note, though, we do have a few strikers and a couple of good players young enough to hold their own in the "Promised land" of the Premiership, and if we keep either Douglas or Healy or even both, we will be flying. Whether or not Mr Blackwell is good enough to bring Leeds forward in the Premiership remains to be seen but he certainly deserves a chance". p.s. I'd like to say, Ger that you should keep your football tips to yourself, as in your banker bet Sheffield United to beat Nowrich, and stick to what you are good at, in writing magazines !!!

"At the time of writing things look good on the pitch, a comfortable 3rd in the league and decent form leaves most in confident mood. If the form can continue we will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. Blackwell is certainly talking all the right talk recently and his efforts and dedication can not be questioned. I do believe he deserves a contract review now and not when it expires at the end of the season. This should be done to recognise his efforts to date and to show faith for the rest of the season. When June arrives, depending on the outcome, the more long term decision on the manager can be made, after all what do contracts really mean, especially to someone of the caliber of Ken Bates, which leads me nicely to matters off the pitch. Make no mistake there is only one reason why average home attandences are down by 10,000 or more or 33% per game, that is Ken Bates. For a shrewd businessman he has surprised me with some of hic actions and policies this season. With the use of his henchmen, Harvey and Hemmingham a full frontal attempt is being made to dismantle the Leeds United SC in favour of his own Leeds United Members club. The only reasons for this are Control and Money". |

?To give you my opinion on how Leeds are doing so far this season would be like reading the summary on a child's school report " Has the ability, Should be doing better " I do feel there are poorer squads above us in the league and you could argue that they are going through a good patch that will come to an end and it is possible that we will get better as the season progresses. I can and should only comment on what we have done and not what we might do. So lets look at some numbers, we have played 11 league games to date, won 5 drawn 3 and lost 3, with 13 goals for and 10 against. The plus side of these statistics is the fact that we kept 7 clean sheets, on the negative side, lack of goals scored and a goals conceded average of 1 a game, but for me the more worrying fact from these statistics are 4 to 5 very poor results at Sheffield, Cardiff, Ipswich, Brighton and possibly Luton. Much is being made of the fact that we kept 7 clean sheets yet we have conceded 10 goals in 5 games, many on the break. I believe we have a real problem of lack of pace at the back, this was discredited and the reason given as a lapse in concentration, in that there are plans in place to deal with the quick break tactic that were not followed. From a management point of view one mistake of this nature can be tolerated, but the amount of mistakes to date for us should by now have resulted with corrective action, I don't see evidence of this fix. I believe the real cause is lack of pace and think we will see more goals conceded in this fashion on less this is addressed. I think we also need to see a greater return from all our strikers, we have 5 of the best in the division but the return falls short of other teams and what is expected, you could point out the fact that Rob Hulse has 6 goals from 11 games, but if you saw the number of chances I saw him miss against Brighton you would hold your court. If this summary sounds critical its because of my expectations for this season, At the beginning of the season in August, having recruited 8 or 9 quality players, spending as much if not more than the other teams in the division, with the History and support of the club I felt an automatic promotion spot was a realistic target and to date we are well short of that. On the plus side, If we do improve as the season progresses, we will have a great addition in Steve Stone if we can get him fit and the quality is there to make a real push forward and challenge for promotion. So what I would like to see is us build on from where we are and progress from strength to strength.
